I always liked the Gonset converter. Its use of local oscillator harmonics rather than switching oscillator coils
gave it a bit more reliability and stability. It naturally did switch the RF coils. Oscillator pulling was also prevented
by the use of harmonic mixing on higher frequency bands.

The QST articles I know of regarding conversion of the BC-453/R-23 to Broadcast Band are April 1958 QST on page 63, Using the Gonset Super-Six Ahead of a Command Receiver by W6DAW; and June 1955 QST on pages 18-20 & 134, Better Selectivity in Mobile Reception by W2TZI.
