[ARC5] A simple receiver improvement

My investigation albeit limited, backs up what Carl found. A few
months ago I came across the Zook article in ER and as I was working
on getting a 50 ohm line to work with a 200 ohm rx antenna Z, I got a
"TV balun" and put a 300 ohm carbon resistor on the balanced end and
swept it with a MFJ swr analyzer. The result was that below around 40
meters it fell apart (electrically). The pure resistance dropped to
a few ohms. These devices are indeed made with tiny cores and hair
thin or thinner wire.
I made my own balun but at least below 20 meters, I noticed no
difference in performance with it in, or the 50 ohm coax line
connected directly to the rx antenna terminals. They might help a
SX25 on 10 meters but my conclusion was that for the low bands the TV
baluns should stay with the TV set.
