Looks like your observation is correct.  I pulled out one of those 
coaxial-looking TV baluns and hooked it up with a BNC to F adaptor. I 
got remarkable loss (1uv vs. about 3uv or 10db) when used with a 
BC-454A.  These must be olde tyme.  Guess I'll be looking at Parts 
Express.  TNX!
