Hey Mike,
A Happy New Year to ya..and others on the list.
I use a BC-652A, on occasion (depending on QRM) with
a T-19/ARC-5. You are correct, it is a bit of a sleeper.
Too bad it doesn't cover 160 &/or 40m. The one
I have was used in the 1970s as our CAP station rcvr. It
has been modified for 120vac. I use a WW2 range filter
to fight the QRM or if that doesn't work, switch over to
a R-388/URR. I check into the Old Mil. Radio Net
using that setup. Lots of fun...73 de Bill K4JYS
PS: Great to hear you back with the ole 'DLF' call.

The BC-652 ain't a half bad radio. Years ago I had my hands on one, repairing it for a local Novice. It still had the 12 volt dynamotor installed, and we ran it from a car battery. The receiver was a little wide, but very stable, and had better bandspread on 80 meters than most of the other surplus receivers that were common at the time. This one was made by GE if I remember right. It looked like the love child of a BC-603 and a RAX.

Working CW in a tank... one can only imagine.

Mark:

I also have a BC-652 that I have yet to touch, except to be lucky enough to find a plug that fits the one for the Dynamotor.

Mine looks to be in very good shape and quite original in almost all respects except for the gray paint job on the rear case. No philistine removed the upper deck electronics.

And I have the original WWII manual for it.

Happy New Year!

Wayne
