Robert,

No laughing going on, here.  When you say no output, do you mean you 
can't hear the crystal check points at the proper check points or are 
you saying that no RF is coming out of the meter?  I believe, as others 
have pointed out, that in the CHECK position you may not have RF 
output.  On the LM, one on the bench as we speak, the RF goes away when 
you select CRYSTAL  (same as CHECK on the BC-221).  Can you clarify your 
situation, a bit?
