In Holland (and south Africa, they don't have petrol (or gas) - they
have 'benzine'.
(I love the vagaries of language.)
Now - to explain "Jerry Can".
When the Brits (and Aussies) arrived in North Africa they discovered
the nasty kerosene cans they used to cart petrol in were far inferior
to the German "Jerry Can".
It seems we adopted both the design and the name.
