I'm with Ben.  The gun grease is designed primarily for sliding 
mechanisms, though it would probably be okay for split tuning gears and 
associated bearings because of the very slow rotation velocity. On the 
other hand, given the low price and variety of most good synthetic 
greases these days, they're all I use these days.
