The Home Depot, about 2-miles from my house here in Richardson, Texas, does have the smaller sized tubing in stock.

Brass -as well as copper, AL and steel tubing - is available at many hardware stores and most hobby stores in a variety of very slightly differing sizes.  The brass ones are so close together in size that they will telescope inside one another and could be soldered together.  The stores have small display boxes with the tubing as well as sheets of the material. I think the brand name is KB? I don't think Home Depot has it, though; they stick to the larger stuff.

That's the best answer to a lack of a connector.  Get the closest size brass tubing, swage it out a bit if required, or else crimp it to make it smaller, and slide it over the pins or into the sockets.

Found a couple of knobs in a junked boom box yesterday and with a little bit of drilling out the center they look like they will work fine in a command set receiver.
