[ARC5] An unusual cure for a short in a tuning gang.

Dear list-readers,
I write this posting after reading postings by other contributors
about faulty oscillators in command receivers.
Some time ago I acquired a 'nice' but not-working command receiver.
I traced the fault to the tuning gang - a short between the plates,
measured using a multimeter, with the wire disconnected.
Careful inspection by eye failed to find the short.
Compressed air did nothing.
I spoke with a friend, David Lawrence, about the problem.
David is 'cluey' where valves are concerned.
He gave me the most unusual remedy I've ever heard. He told me to:
Fold a blanket 2 layers thick and put it on the floor.
Take the 'toobs' out of the receiver.
Hold the radio 60cm above the blanket, level (horizontal) with the
floor.
Drop the radio onto the blanket.
Be careful not to drop the radio on a corner. (Obvious.)
Then - see if the set works. It did.
This is a true story, not a joke.
