I wonder if success or failure
with different matching
techniques is dependent on environment.
Case in point, when I lived in Nevada,
I could get more power out of an ARC5 family
transmitter with an UNUN and series capacitor.
The coupling control would show a peak in output
in the 6 to 8 range. Without the UNUN(still with
the series capacitor), the
coupling control would hit 10, with the output
power still rising. This is both into a dummy load
and an antenna.
Here in Georgia, I find that the UNUN is unnecessary.
I see more power without it, and either with or without it,
the coupling control is at or very near 10.
Different ground? Humidity? Different house construction?
Different house wiring? Shop in basement instead of
ground floor? All or none of the above?
I spent some time trying to dope it out, rewinding
toroids, using a tuner backwards, etc etc, but
acheived no answers. So I just accept it.
It does make the antenna current meter anemic though.
