The octal crystal holder used was a type DC-8-(*). Frequencies that I have
come across over the years are as follows:
2500 KC *
3500 KC *
4600 KC *
5205 KC
5500 KC
6200 KC *
8000 KC *
Frequencies marked "*" are listed in NAVAER 08-5Q-4 on the ATA/ARA. as
being in the appropriate transmitter. Except for 2500 KC, the same list is in
T.O. 08-10-50. AN 08-30ARC5-2 doesn't have a list, saying merely that the
frequency must be specified when ordering.

No idea.

The FT-230 is the little panel and box that plugs into the front of the
SCR-274-N receivers. It is the one normally shipped in all receivers. Besides
the various aluminum components, it consists of one connector that mates
with the male mini-banana pins in the front panel recess. Connector wiring
consists of only one jumper in the +24 VDC input line. The receiver was
turned ON and OFF by a switch on the remote control box located elsewhere. The
similar FT-260 has a switch across the two pins in place of the jumper.
Neither accessory have anything to do with crystals. I have seen somewhere two
of three photographs showing a receiver with two crystals mounted in what
was probably a modified FT-230. But AFAIK, no documentation has ever surfaced
on it. Even if you were to come across an actual modified FT-230, plugging
it into a receiver wouldn't convert the receiver to crystal control. Some
significant wiring modifications would have to be made inside the receiver
in order for it to work.
As already stated, the crystal doesn't control the transmitted frequency.
All MF and HF transmitters are VFO equipped (or MOPA) and will work fine
without a crystal plugged in.
