Actually I think that is quite a suitable transformer.
The 1100V CT will give 770V DC when half-wave rectified to a capacitor
input filter. That leaves a bit of excess for his regulation purposes.
OTOH, the 700V CT would give 490V DC in the same half-wave configuration. A
bit low, but could be used unregulated. There's no real justification for
regulation of the entire B+, although the VFO B+ benefits from it.
If I was offered that transformer I'd jump at it, so long as the
core looked like it could supply 150W or more.
