[ARC5] ARC-5 Transmitter Power Supply options/suggestions

I've bought a relatively inexpensive (~$27) industrial "control transformer" to try in an ARC-5 supply someday. The label says it will output 550 to 600 vac with 110 to 120 input. Also says rated at 110VA and I'm guessing it won't get too warm in amateur service. No filament windings, though.

Hi Andrew

I’m using the voltage divider specified by Dave Stinson, which is the same
divider used inside the BC-456 modulator. I use a variac to control the
secondary voltage of my power transformer, and set the HV to 550V. The
divider (3 Resistors) takes care of the rest of the voltages. So, for
this you’d need a HV transformer that can provide 550V and about 200 - 250
mA total. You of course still need a 24V DC supply of around 2.5 A.

For CW you do not need voltage regulation.
