Do you mean he pulled up on the rods so hard that he broke them off? If so,
you can remove each can (two screws at the bottom), unplug the can, then
there are 4 screws around the bottom-side, pull the outer can straight up and
off, then manually move the top coils, carefully, back down to their bottom
notches, then reinstall the covers and the cans.
Pulling the tubes first will help make the job easier to rearch.
I am assuming you need the broader selectivity since you plan to listen to
phone signals instead of just CW. Otherwise, the selectivity with all three
rods all the way up is a bit too narrow for good AM reproduction.
You can experiment with the end ones down and the center one up, etc...

You need an AF gain control and audio-taper pots...
