Yes, they even sold kits to modify the BC-458 for the VFO. Remember you
could buy about any 'command set' transmitter for about $10 or less then,
sometimes brand new. I rember McGee Radio in Kansas City had 100's of
them in various conditions for $5 each in the late 50s. So even though $5
was a bunch of money then, it did not stop me and 100s of others from
cutting them up for whatever use we could dream up.
