I got free shipping for mine too. I cannot remember exactly what I paid for it, 
but I was happy, even so.

I have yet to use the wall-wart. A 9V transistor battery lasts for weeks. It has 
an "auto-off" function built in too. When I have not used it for a certain 
number of minutes, it simply powers off.
