[ARC5] ARC-2: Smart People Needed

The ARC-2 apparently covers 2 to 9.5 MHZ.

What was the idea behind the variable IF, 1.0 to 1.5 MHZ?  I thought that 1.0 MHZ generally would not be considered too low an IF for use at 9.5 MHZ, especially if the IF is not all that tight.

Now in an ARC-27, given the technology of the time, a variable IF makes sense - beautifully, horribly, complicated sense, but that's with a 174 MHZ tuning range. 

And is the ARC-2 IF tighter at 1.0 MHZ than at 1.5MHZ?
