OK- a few friends have "called me on the carpet"
and I do need to clarify.
I shouldn't write before the second pot of coffee :-D.

I'm not hard, no-compromise on the issue of changes.
I actually support and have myself done what I would
call "tweeks" or "implants:" non-destructive, reversable
aids to operation which enchance without trying to make
a WWII radio into a plastic "YeaComWood."
The idea of moving the BFO injection to the 1st IF
is an example, if done without chopping stuff up.
I've "implanted" converters to make LF "Range"
receivers useful on 75 meters, installed a removable
audio module so a BC-348 could be run on reduced B+,
regulated filament strings to protect tubes,
moved a wire so a VHF AM transmitter will do FM, etc.

Doing this is, IMHO, part of "setting one's own sail";
still enjoying the old girl for what she is, rather than
take an axe to the stern and haywire-in an outboard motor.
Since I matured into appreciation of these vets for what they are,
every issue I've encountered could be addressed
without the drill and saw; just one's own good sense
and the advice of good friends.
