Captain Van Valkenburgh was not a supply Officer!
He was a Naval Academy grad and a career Battleship Officer having

He posthumously received the Medal Of Honor for his actions on 7 DEC 41.
He was the inspector for  material for the Third Naval District when he 
was involved with the ARC-5.
An amazing career and officer!
