"Commodore is a non-existent rank in the current US Navy AFAIK. It MAY
have been used during WW II. It is equivalent to a one-star admiral but I
don't believe it has been used for many years/decades"

True...The Navy rank of Commodore made a brief reappearance but was then
made obsolete again. It was the Grade of O-7. But the *term* Commodore is
still applied as a title. (Confused yet? LOL) A Commodore is the
commanding officer of 2 or more ships, as in a Division or Squadron. As
such, a Commodore could be any rank. Just like the Captain of a ship could
be of any rank. I think we should blame all this on our friends across the
Pond. We inherited the Navy rank structure from the 18th century
British...and it confuses the hell out of the enemy! LOL
