The 809 has a 6.3v filament (@2.5A). There is a 6L6 xtal osc / 809 final in
one of the RCA tube data books that I have always liked the looks of. Of
course, the 6L6 is not particularly gentle on modern crystals.
Another design I like is from the GE Ham News - 1614 VFO driving a
4-125A. Allegedly has good stability and break-in keying.
