I took the NC-270 tuning cap out of the Evaporust today and found it looked quite good. It had been in there for about a week. There was some yellowish substance present, mainly on the frame and not so much on the plates.

The yellowish stuff came off pretty easily where you could get to it; it was not much affected by CRC electrical contact cleaner and only a little by household spray cleaners but wiped off well. Trouble was, it was very hard to get at much of it. I finally was able to get almost all of it off with some Wal-Mart version of WD-40 and some artist's brushes. I need to pick up another pack of cheap artist's brushes; I have not used them in that manner before but they are excellent for that application. Even the "wipers" at the end of the shaft look good now.

So Evaporust not only removes rust from steel but also cleans aluminum in a gentle manner and is the very best thing I have found to clean heavy corrosion off of brass, which is what the shaft on the tuning cap is made of.

As a result of this cleaning effort I am not going to use the spare tuning cap I purchased but instead use the old one. One of the stator phenolic mounts was broken loose from where it is attached to the frame and I'll have to use some epoxy glue to reattach it, but with that done it'll be good to go.

I will add some extra grounding as well, since the mounting points on the chassis are now covered by rust converter and paint.

Thanks again to Ken, for letting me know about this remarkable product!
