Assuming an IF frequency of 455 kHz, an 8430 kHz crystal controlled local oscillator would result in a receiver frequency of either 7975 kHz or 8885 kHz.

Googling those two frequencies shows that there was a Spanish numbers station on 7975.

8885 appears to be an HF airways frequency, currently being used at least for one location (Bahrain) for ACARS (Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System).

I would deduce from the above that the original application for the subject receiver was in airways comms service, although "possibly used for receiving coded messages from a numbers station" would be a better EBay hype!

Single channel fixed frequency receivers for airways comms at control towers and other ground locations were commonly used, I believe Collins had a line of them.

Although its not likely that 8430 was the actual receive frequency, it appears at least currently to be used for SITOR, there are YouTube videos of a station sending its call in  SITOR and CW.
