No. LM is a very common "compacted" version of the BC-221, commonly used on aircraft. 
There were at least 14 variants of the LM.

I use two BC-221-AKs here to help in the alignment of receivers: I set one at one end and the 
other at the other end. The BC-221 is, in my view, a magnificent piece of gear. So is LM.

The BC-221-AK version is one of only three versions of the BC-221 which contains a built-in 
400 Hz modulated output choice. ALL LMs have this choice of outputs.

I also have two LMs here, bought for peanuts for "parts". Both work fine.
