The Type 12 explanation makes good sense, Mike. Though this one is
different than the one your photo shows (has spline collar for attaching to
receiver, lacks the two holes on the body & the word OUT).

It also has the number 12001 clearly stamped on it as I mentioned the first
time the question was asked. Viewing the photo clearly shows this, along
with the lack of any MX (ARC-5) or MC (Command/AAF?) designation. Just the
ARC logo, which makes it look commercial vs military. Body shape looks
identical.

I've got a Type 12 manual here, maybe that will shed more light on it.
