Yes. I used grease to hold the balls in the tensioner end, but on the OTHER
(big) end, there is no way to get grease in there, and besides, that wouldn't
help anyway.
The "slot" in the big end is placed so that one has to both slightly pry the two
bits apart, and "lean" the rotor to one side, then feed each individual ball in to
the slot, letting it roll to the "bottom" where the two pieces of capacitor are
closer together. That way they don't roll out.
I did manage to get as many of those little balls as I could find in there, only
dropping 3 or 4 in the process. In any case, out of about 24 or 25 balls that
should be in there, I got at least 18 in place, and the capacitor is now
centered and works smoothly.
But what a giant PITA it was putting those back in there! If I had had a spare
capacitor, it would have taken far less time to simply replace the capacitor. 4
screws and three soldered connections isn't much.
I also oiled everything oil-able with Tri-Flow. The tuning is nice and smooth
now. I hope it stays that way.
