Many of those types of prosigns were/are denigrated in typical use
by the "troops". I was on the USS Intrepid/CVS-11 in 1971, and
sometimes was assigned to a position that monitored one of the
various sound-powered phone circuits for Operations between CIC,
Surface Plot, lookouts, status boards, etc. Use of something like
"NINER" got immediate adverse reaction. The worst case was "WILCO",
which would produce anonymous threats of immediate bodily harm to
any new guy on the phones heard using it.
I considered WILCO to be very "space cadet"-ish myself, even when I
I first heard it on Navy/MC MARS in 1968.
