Because the RCA cannot be used with the larger sized cables and be properly installed.

One of the reasons that the RCA has minimal "impedance bump" is that the shielding on RG58/U or RG8/U can be attached to the connector while maintaining the integrity of the spacing of the cable.  Using larger diameter shielding requires a considerable change in the shield to center conductor spacing which, in turn, does not maintain the impedance.

Glen,

Why would that be when in conducting surfaces of the N, BNC, TNC are all
the same demensions?

I use BNC connectors with the twist ring cut off as push-ons for all the
above in shop.
