The bayonet is an effective captive yet a quick connect and disconnect connector.

I still believe Collins choose the RCA connector because of price.

Because you have to twist it to connect it: the RCA jack requires a simple 
"push-on/pull-off" and can be used for a quick connect/disconnect mounting 
system.
