The book I am reading says that by the end of the war just the USN had 775 receivers monitoring Japanese communications.  That does not include the US Army, Brits, Aussies, Kiwis, etc.

As for Joe Connor's comment about Hallicrafters, I think you a have just described National Radio as well, which in my highly biased opinion (two NC-155, NC-270, NC-190, NC-188, NC-60 owner) generally built far better equipment than did Hallicrafters.
