[ARC5] ARC-5 VHF in USAF Aircraft

Yes, I remember Washing Machine Charlie from the Baa Baa Black Sheep series on TV.

But I'm still trying to nail down what kind of VHF transceiver we had in those 1955 SNJs with the red pushbuttons on the channel selector control box.  Arc-5 or ARC-something else?

  That term was first used during WWI, I believe. It described the nightly visits 
  by an enemy aircraft.

  The Japanese did this regularly in the Pacific at some U.S. airfields. Since 
  the Japanese often used twin-engined bombers with un-synchronized 
  engines, they were also called "Washing Machine Charlie".
