The AN/ARC-3 is fun to watch, as it tunes itself up.

The only manual thing about changing crystals is that
a thumbwheel on the receiver has to be set to select
the proper harmonic for tune up. Note that the
set tunes itself up every time the channel is changed.

I had mine set up and running a few years back, and Hank
Brown and I had an ARC-3 to ARC-3 QSO at San Luis Obispo.

When I was getting my set running, the biggest problem
was dirty relay contacts. I burnished and cleaned contacts
over and over, but the more I exercised the set, the more
reliable it became.

It has been probably 5 years since my set was fired up, it
should be interesting to see how it does now, and it is on
the project list.
