Before you use the white-vinegar-and-salt treatment, you might wish to try
this stuff:

wBsAeQ
I have used this stuff on several different kinds of corrosion and it has always
done a superb job.
However, you will have to remove the cap from the receiver and completely
immerse it in the stuff.
I bought a gallon of it some time ago. I have used it in rifle bores, all sorts of
electronic parts, MC-215 tuning cables, and jewelry, and it always worked.
The white corrosion that was on the MC-215s came away in a cloud of it,
and the Evapo-Rust left them looking almost new.
Once you have used the stuff, you don't throw it out: you return it to the jug. It
only becomes unusable after it finally turns black. Mine is still the original
color.
