[ARC5] Cleaning Brass

I bought a National NC-270 on ebay several weeks back. It was pretty cheap but has some corrosion. Most of it I can handle with rust converter and paint.

But the main tuning cap has a lot of corrosion. The frame is rusty. The shaft is black and along the outer end is positively caked with corrosion. The shaft wiper on the end is hopeless.

I figured I would have to replace the tuning cap and bought one from Gary. But a guy over on QRZ pointed out you can solder a piece of solder wick onto the shaft and onto the frame to substitute for a bad wiper. I'll try that.

However how do I clean the corrosion? Deoxit did nothing much. A mixture of white vinegar and baking soda did little at most. Only thing that worked at all is Brasso - and it is designed to polish with, which is hardly feasible. I did get some off with it.

Y'all have any ideas or experiences?

Thanks!

Wayne
