.445" is the outside diameter of *one* that I have here, John. Another
is exactly .500"OD. I assume Wayne meant that the inner cable
protrusion from one end would appear to reduce in length by 11/16"
*relative to the outer sheath* for every 360° in bending, because the
sheath thickness would force the inner cable into a greater radius loop
than the inside-most part of the sheath. That is to say, with one end
of inner cable andouter sheath clamped together, the inner cable would
appear to shorten relative to the end of the outer sheath as one bent
the assembly into a loop. And you are right - the smaller the whole
cable outside diameter, or the thinner the sheath thickness, the less
effect there would be. The tachometer (and windshield wiper) flexible
drive cables are definitely thicker than the radio tuning cables. I seem
to recall that they have an inner liner to withstand the continuous
speed of the drive cable inside.
