.445" is the outside diameter of *one* that I have here, John. Another 
is exactly .500"OD.  I assume Wayne meant that the inner cable 
protrusion from one end would appear to reduce in length by 11/16" 
*relative to the outer sheath* for every 360° in bending, because the 
sheath thickness would force the inner cable into a greater radius loop 
than the inside-most part of the sheath.  That is to say, with one end 
of inner cable andouter sheath clamped together, the inner cable would 
appear to shorten relative to the end of the outer sheath as one bent 
the assembly into a loop.  And you are right - the smaller the whole 
cable outside diameter, or the thinner the sheath thickness, the less 
effect there would be.  The tachometer (and windshield wiper) flexible 
drive cables are definitely thicker than the radio tuning cables. I seem 
to recall that they have an inner liner to withstand the continuous 
speed of the drive cable inside.
