Hi Dave

at the risk of seeming commercial, may I offer up for discussion a little module me and my buddy (both retired of coots) developed. It's a little micro based module that is designed to drive the imported Chinese AD9850/51 modules. It allows for setting any frequency within the range of the DDS module to 1 Hz resolution. The control of the module is a very straight forward ASCII string sent serial to the unit. It includes a s mall USB to serial adaptor module. It's a close to plug and play that I know of. Email me at millerke6f@ aol.com if you or the other folks would like more details on the thing. I currently have three versions on the bench. All use the same serial ASCII async serial command (9600 baud). it will accept TTL/CMOS serial commands or using the included USB to serial adaptor, it will accept commands from nearly any PC terminal program that can be configured for 9600 baud, 1 start and 1 stop bit no parity. OR if you want to include the gadget in a dedicated p
roject with a PIC or Arduino, its still just a serial command string.
Thanks for the read of the shameless commerce blurb

Bob, ke6f

Has anyone here actually used one of these DDS modules
in a way that can be duplicated without
renting a full-up surface-mount factory for a few hours?
Haven't found much useful on Google:

If I have to etch a board and add 500 ittsy-bittsy parts
and tag-on a PC through a $200 interface, I pass.
I'll stick with the $5 programmable oscillators.
