I was not aware that Stoddard had done it.  It's certainly not a technique
that lends itself well to low maintenance of equipment.  As soon as the
emission fell, the gain would be immediately affected.

As for lowering the B+, I could see that affecting partition noise, but not
anything happening around the cathode.
