IMHO, it's yet another example of attempting
to make a Chevy Corvette out of a Model-T Ford.
Rather than enjoy the "Model-T" for what it was,
he ended-up with "neither fish nor foul"
and tossed it into the junk heap.
If the "Easy SSB Exciter" was such a great idea,
why are there not several still being used on the air?
I have never in all these years heard even ONE.
There certainly are a lot of original (or nearly so)
Command Sets winging-along.
So why not this "wonderful SSB ham innovation?"
Maybe because it was actually
a poorly-working piece of JUNK?
Like most "hack jobs:" If it was ever finished at all-
and most were not- it one-lunged and crippled-along,
trying to do that for which it was never intended,
until the hacker got enough money to buy a commercial rig.
The poor, abused Command Set then went into
a dirty old garage box for the next four decades.
I have been working with Command Sets off-and-on
for over 40 years.
I have seen and handled hundreds of "hack" jobs.
I believe it accurate to say that 90% or more
were unfinished and/or unusable "train wrecks"
which never did another lick of useful work.
YMMV of course.
