[ARC5] Command Sets and Other Rarities - T17 Subthread

RS-38...they do have a bit better output than the T-17.  I also have a noise 
cancelling variant of the RS-38, seems like it was sold commercially post-war 
for civilian aircraft use.  Can't recall the number, but it was made by 
Roanwell.  It has the best performance of the three carbon based mic forms.  But 
if you want your otherwise stock ARC-5/SCR-274 system to sound good, feed it 
line level audio from a high quality source (I send mine through a military 
RM-12 line coupler, designed to interface with carbon mic input radios),  the 
results are truly amazing!  With the RM-12, I can do direct A to B comparisons 
with a T-17 or RS-38 plugged into the mic jack on the RMM-12 front panel vs. the 
external line level feed.  From the test's its easy to see that the limiting 
factor in the command set transmit audio performance is the carbon mike.

What was the number on the little squatty round can type mike the navy used 
kinda shaped like a thick version of a modern snuff can?  Never saw one offered 
surplus new or used.  When I did they were expensive!  ($5-$7!!!)
