I do not think this got through earlier, but you can see illustrations from Bliley's patent for the X-lap process at: http://www.bliley.net/XTAL/Story.html#Photos Chap 8 . The process was so named to try to conceal it from competitors. The drawing depicts how the crystak blank was held and another drawing shows the handy dandy calculator for estimating etch time.
