There were at least two versions of the APR-4. The first version was the WWII model, which uses octal tubes. The Korean War version was the APR-4Y, which uses miniature tubes; I have an example.

After WWII some of the individual tuning units were replaced with the CV-253/ALR converter, which plugged into the APR-4Y to cover 38-1000 MHZ. The CV-253 moved the antenna connections, 4 of them, one for each band, to the tuning unit. My APR-4Y came with the CV-253 plugged in.

I presume the older individual tuning units will still work in the APR-4Y, and I have one of those, too, covering 80-300 MHZ.

Together the two units became the AN/ALR-5. I have a manual on the set should anyone need info.
