That method always works Bill. If its for 14 mc and above cherry picking the 
RF and mixer tubes oftens gives an SNR boost, especially on 10M and this is 
true even with NIB tubes as Gm production consistency varies a lot. In some 
cases cherry picking the first IF tube helps a little more at 10M with the 
octal and older mixers/converters. The 6SB7Y will replace a 6SA7 and the 
socket can be rewired to replace the 6A8, 6K8, 6L7.

When a seperate oscillator tube is used a 6SN7 can become a Pullen or 
conventional dual triode mixer. Same with a 6J6 in place of a 6BE6/6BY6.
