    Virginia used tohave a personal property/inventory tax that was 
counted on January 1st. There was a Bell system warehouse in Alexandria 
that in December would literally junk everything possible including new, 
still-packed Teletype Model 35 machines. Then in January they would ship 
in replacement stuff from the Western Electricfactory in Skokie, Illinois.

     Western Electric was an industrial company, allowed to make a 15% 
profit. Bell was a utility, allowed a 7% return. Go figure.
