Several years ago, a friend got together with me to try to find a substitute for the 1L6 in his R-
1004. We tried several different ones: the 1R5, a 1LA6, and even a European "work-alike".
Not one of those would work reliably in the R-1004.
He finally went back to a 1L6, as did I. I bought a spare for $15.00 from some fellow who had
found a large stock of them in an old military warehouse, but at this point, I cannot remember
where I put it.
After I have left my R-1004 off over night, it works again this afternoon.
