I am less knowledgable than others here but I have read about the US WW2 torpedo problems and I do not remember ever seeing any indication of German espionage of US torpedoes. I have the faintest recollection of a background sweep of German Americans having found one or more pro german machinists working in the defense ( torpedo?) industry but if I remember correctly these men had not (yet?) engaged in any spying
And I suppose this is off-off topic but I did read the Germans have very similar problems with their magnetic fused torpedoes early in the war but recognized they had a problem and fixed it promptly.
The Japanize figured out the US had a torpedo problem when multiple ships came back into port with US torpedoes stuck in a hole on their sides.

Subject: [ARC5] Off topic-torpedoes
Hate to resurrect an off topic subject, but concerning
the recent thread about the WWII torpedo scandal, I
have a question.
I read a book many years ago, that stated there was a German
side of the torpedo story, in that German espionage had
infiltrated the torpedo factory, and knew the Navy's
torpedoes were faulty.
Question is, anyone else read that, and what book was it?
Thanks
Jack Antonio
