[ARC5] "Retaining" plugs

On one of the WW2 vintage headsets I have, the actual headset cord is quite short, less than a foot or so, and has an inline
plug and barrel jack connector to a longer cord that would plug into the aircraft's audio jacks. No doubt configured as a quick disconnect in case one had to move away from a location in a hurry such a s a bail out or other casualty situation.

Off the top of my head I don't remember any PL-55/PJ-055 crossing my path that have the threads exposed but there may well have been. At a hamfest a couple of years ago I bought a bunch of "new" headset extension cords like the CD-307, I'll look them over more closely.
Apples and oranges, Mike. Jay was talking about the threads protruding on the chassis mount jacks, not the cord plug plastic shell. The cord plugs with the plastic shell he is talking about have a knurled ring that threads onto the chassis mounted jack, similar to an AN connector. I found one with one of his part numbers and posted a photo of one at http://aafradio.org/flightdeck/Retained_phone_plug.JPG
The B prefix appears to be a common NAF practice that identifies the particular Naval Air Facility who was cognizant authority. The C prefix in the RL-7 manual was probably NAF Columbus.
The RL-7 diagram I sent to Jay that shows their usage is the third from the bottom frame at http://aafradio.org/docs/RL-7.html
Happy forth of July, everyone,
