[ARC5] ARN-6 in F-80 and F-86D

John has it exactly right. The only other thought that is usually
appended to an explanation of the sense antenna is that it removes the
"ambiguity" of the normal figure eight pattern, which would leave you
wondering which of the diametrically opposed directions indicated
represent the "real" one. Unfortunately the desired sharpness of the
null is sometimes degraded by factors such as time of day, frequency,
height of reception platform, strength of the station, and probably a
couple of other elements I don't recall at the moment. I've experienced
some pretty broad nulls using a sense antenna with a loop...enough to
make you scratch your head with wonderment...:-)
