Gents:
Obviously, I didn't make myself clear about why I think ARC geniuses did
this:
If the suppressor is connected to the cathode, and if the cathode is then
above ground, to my way of thinking this would not effect the selectivity of
the stage so much as modify (improve) the gain of the stage a small amount.
I suspected that doing this would enable the gain of the over all system to be
"smoother" and less dependent on the instantaeous setting of the gain
control or of other external factors, like low voltage, suddenly high signal
input, etc. It could, conceivably, reduce the necessity for the pilot to adjust
the gain control.
I don't KNOW this: I simply suspect it.
Those ARC engineers were no dummies and knew things we have forgotten
or never thought were important enough to worry about.
In any case, selectivity was purposely fixed, and this would have no
discernible effect on that aspect.
