Understanding Amateur Radio, c1963 ARRL carries both transmitter and
receiver articles on modifying the ARC-5's for Novice use. P.187
details a 6AG7 crystal controlled osc that is build in a small
external box and then plugged into the 1626 socket via a cable. The
article goes on to describe an external power supply, octal power
socket, relay removal, etc.
