My Novice command receiver (3-6 mc) had a power supply with 6.3 volts
from the power transformer and another amount from a couple of AA-5
audio output transformers serving filament duty. These were wired to
the line ahead of the power switch and ran all the time. So, when I
turned the set on, the thing came to life in a few seconds instead of
15 or so from cold filaments.
Possibly the warmth in the tubes helped with warmup stability, too.
